Dynamic Navigation

The Power of Menus

Dynamic Navigation

NetEnable provides a user-friendly interface for allocating content to the sites information architecture and the automatically rendering navigation menus and dynamically producing summary pages, such as Document List, Categories Lists, Site Maps, A to Z listings, image galleries, etc. If required, dynamic navigation categories can also be created.

Users simply allocate content to an area in the site cascade and provide an optional sort type/code. The content then takes on the behaviour assigned to that area. For example, if a document that is published to the policies section of the site will display as normal content. The same document published to the NEWS section will be shown in a automatically created summary list (menu) with a Title, thumbnail, description and more link. When the “more” link is selected the document displays a normal content. The same content will automatically appear in the A_Z listing and the Site Map.

Context Sensitive Feature and Resource Menus

Feature Menus allow a document/image to automatically appear in a side menu. Features are context sensitive allowing specific documents/images to be published to different site areas. The feature can be configured to show only images published to a particular area, or if none are found, to show the document/images from its parent areas.

Resource menus automatically list any associated resources in a list, showing resource type icon, name and file size with rollovers for descriptions.

Automatic Breadcrumbs

NetEnable provides a standard menu type for automatic creation of breadcrumbs.

Page redirection

NetEnable provides an intelligent automatic redirector feature in the rendering engine to redirect requests for content at old addresses to the same content published at its new location. There is also a content redirector database that can be configured to redirect content from other sources to their new location.

Create Your Own

Additional Navigation Items can be created by configuring Menus from the following behaviours.

  • Source
    • Navigation - Create a navigation menu.
    • Book - Design the Table of Contents for on-line books.
    • Resources - Specify how document resources will be displayed.
    • Search Results - Create a customisable site search.
  • Reverse Order
    • Display the menu in reverse order.
  • Navigation Mode
    • Dynamic Menu - Displays navigation items that are related to the cascade location being viewed by the web user.
    • Fixed Menu - Similar to “Dynamic Menu” however it displays items related to a specific cascade location rather than the cascade location the web user is viewing.
    • Relative Menu - A cross between a “Dynamic Menu” and a “Fixed Menu”. Displays items within a specified cascade location that is relative to the cascade location the web user is viewing.
    • Site Tree - Displays a “tree” of all navigation items in the site.
  • Optional fixed location
    • Specify an optional fixed location for dynamic menus. Instead of the menu displaying items relevant to the current navigation item, it will display menu items relevant to the specified navigation location.
  • Cascade Location
    • Specify the cascade location to display for a fixed location menu. The menu will display menu items relevant to the specified fixed location.
  • Relative Location
    • Enter the cascade location to display for a relative location menu. If the cascade location being viewed by the user contains a cascade location with the same name as the relative location, then the items within the relative cascade location are displayed.
    • Selecting “Search for location in parent items” will search parent items of the viewed cascade location for the relative location if the relative location is not present in the viewed cascade location.
    • Limit the “Search for location in parent items” option by specifying which level to stop searching for a relative menu.
  • Listing Type
    • List - Display a continual list of navigation items related to the selected location (sibling items and optional child items).
    • Breadcrumb - Display each navigation item in the path from the base of the site to the selected cascade location (parent items).
    • Tree - Display a “tree” of related items between the base of the site and the selected location (parent items, sibling items of parent items, sibling items and optional child items).
